Note that the Nigerian immigration service recruitment is usually for three cadres of Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (II), Immigration Assistant (III) and Assistant Inspector of Immigration.

Nigerian Immigration Service

POSITIONS:

CATEGORY A: SUPERINTENDENT CADRE

  • i. Superintendent of Immigration (SI) CONPASS 11 Professional (Doctors):

Applicants must possess minimum of First Degree (MBBS) from a recognized Institution of higher learning and NYSC Discharge Exemption Certificate.

  • ii. Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) CONPASS 10 Professional.(Pharmacists):

Applicants must possess minimum of First Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized Institution of higher learning and NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.

  • iii. Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI II) CONPASS 08.

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree, Higher National Diploma or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.

CATEGORY B: INSPECTORATE CADRE

i. Assistant Inspector of Immigration (All), General Duty, CONPASS 06.

Applicants must be holders of National Diploma (ND), NCE or Advanced NABTEB obtained from recognized Institutions.

CATEGORY C: ASSISTANT CADRE

i. Immigration Assistant III (IA I11) CONPASS 03 General Duty

Applicants must be holders of GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO, GCE or Its equivalent with a minimum of Four (4) credits in not more than

two (2) sittings, which must include English and Mathematics.

ii. Immigration Assistant III (IA III CONPASS 03 Artisans

a) Motor drivers

b) Mechanic

Applicants must be holders of Ordinary Level SSCE, or its equivalents and appropriate Trade Test Certificate.

Nigeria Immigration Service is a government-owned paramilitary agency charged with the responsibility of controlling the movement of people coming in and out of Nigeria.

NIS Recruitment Requirement:

  • Before you will be employ in NIS you should be a Nigerian by birth.
  • Have a BSC, HND and possibly ND for a lower position.
  • Don’t exceed the 30 years age limit and also be upto 18 years of age, then up to 35 years of age for Doctors and Pharmacists
  • Be medically fit.
  • Be mentally stable.
  • You shouldn’t be bankrupt.
  • Free from debt.
  • Be of good behaviour.
  • Applicant’s height must not be less than 1.65m for males and 1.60m for females.
  • Applicant’s chest measurement of not less than 0.87m for men.
  • NYSC certificate is necessary.

What’s The Strength Of The Nigeria Immigration Services

As mentioned earlier, the agency is legally backed up by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Immigration Act 2015)

It equally has the right to fast-track the issuance of paperwork depending on how urgent a traveler needs the documents.

Irrespective of the constitutional power backing up their activities, the agency is still accountable to the federal government of the Federation as they are expected to give a monthly or annual report of their operations to the Minister of Interior.

Nigeria Immigration Service Salary Structure

Just like all other paramilitary agencies in Nigeria, the Nigeria Immigration Service salary structure is based on ranks and, sometimes, academic qualifications.

The highest ranked position in the agency is the office of the Comptroller General Immigration Service. Officers who into this category are guaranteed to earn nothing less than N3M (Three million naira) per year.

The lowest-ranked position is known as the passport officers. Anyone who falls into this category is entitled to just N30,000 per month.

However, if you’re joining the service as a graduate your minimum salary is N150,000 and other incentives.

Functions of the Nigeria Immigration Services

Apart from monitoring the movement of people trooping into and out of the country, the Nigeria Immigration Service also perform other duties. Some of this functions are discussed below:

1. It Controls The Outward and Inward Movements Made by Nigerians and Foreigners:
This is the agency’s primary assignment as it was created to ensure that country’s borders are safe for the citizens and foreigners. They ensure that illegal movement into or out of the country is prohibited.

2. It Creates and Provides Every Important Traveling Document:
The agency is legally backed up by the Nigerian constitution to create all essential traveling documents to Nigerians who are willing to travel out or into the country.

3. It Creates and Issues Residence Permit To Foreigners:
It’s one thing for foreigners to travel into Nigeria, but it’s another thing for them to live freely.

Residence-permit is a paperwork that allows foreigners to live in Nigeria without any problem. This document — also known as the The Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) — can only be processed and issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service.

4. The Agency Engages In Regular Border Surveillance Activities:
As part of its mission to checkmate the eligibility of people traveling in and out of the country, the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) engages in regular checking of the all the borders across the country to ensure that there are no illegal migrants.

Other functions of the commission or agency include:

  • Keeping of important travel-related records
  • It serves as law-enforcing agency
  • It arrest and detain illegal migrants.
  • It organizes training for new recruits.
  • It aids in the production of e-machines
