As we proceed in our list of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, our attention was caught by one of the the highly-rated Universities in the country which is the University of Abuja.
Some call it Abuja University, others call it University of Abuja while the third category of people love to call it UniAbuja. Whichever group you belong to, the three groups of people are talking about one of the oldest schools in the country.
History of UNIABUJA (University of Abuja)
University of Abjua has been existing since 1988 as it was among the first set of schools created by the federal government under the leadership of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Two years later, the University of Abuja started its lectures in a very small building in Gwagwalada. The three-block building arena, which was initially meant for a secondary school, was referred to as mini-campus as at that time, and lectures were delivered to the first set of students in the building.
The Federal government eventually provided the school administration with a larger piece of land in order to build more conducive lecture rooms and other infrastructural buildings that will aid studies.
It was revealed that 11,000 hectares of land was given to the university of Abuja for the construction of its main campus.
Campuses in UNIABUJA
The tertiary institution can boast of two campuses. The first and the main one is located in Giri along Airport road, while the second one — which is often referred to as the mini campus — still remains in Gwagwalada.
