Afe Babalola University, also known as ABUAD, is private-owned institution with a very high reputation among students and learned citizens of the country.

Located in Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD was established in 2009 by one of the Nigeria’s most prestigious lawyer and philanthropist Afe Babalola, and it was inaugurated by the former president of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The University is known for its size as it covers 103 hectares of land. In addition, its college of engineering is regarded as one of the largest colleges in Africa as it covers three-and-half acres of land.

The university boasts of five colleges and postgraduate studies — which is also regarded as another college — thereby bringing the total colleges to six. The colleges include Law, Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences,

First Set Of ABUAD Graduates

ABUAD first sets of graduates were 101 in number, and the graduation ceremony took place in 2013 — four years after its establishment. Out of the 101 graduates, 18 were extremely successful as they passed out with first class honors.

Meanwhile, it will interest you to know that Afe Babalola University’s first convocation ceremony took place in the same year.

State-of-the-art Learning Equipments

The Afe Babalola University has a huge campus that contains many playing grounds where extra-curricular activities often take place.

As for lecture room, the university has enough and conducive buildings where students of each college have their lectures without struggles or inconveniences. There are special classes or lecture rooms for postgraduate students.

Other facilities such as Teaching Hospitals, Conference Hall, well-equipped laboratories, bakery, cafeteria, Laundry, and water processing plants are all available for use.

ABUAD’s Admission Procedures

Just like every other tertiary institutions in Nigeria, all admission-seeking candidates are advised to have five credits in their SSCE exam — either NECO, WAEC or other related exams. The fives credits must include Mathematics, English and three course-related subjects.

Having gotten the required 0-level grade or result, candidate must successfully pass the UTME exam, which is widely known as JAMB among Nigerian students.

After that, candidates are required to visit the school campus for oral exam that will be conducted by a staff of the college or faculty you applied for. This is done to know if you’re eligible for admission or not.

Direct Entry students are equally eligible for admission, though, they will need to have an oral exam just like the secondary school graduates.

Being a private institution, it is expected that ABUAD is expensive and can only be attended by the children of high salary earners.

ABUAD’s tuition fee and overall school fee is on the high side and it is more or less a ‘no go area’ for students with poor financial status.

However, it will be unfair not to tell you that the quality of education rendered by the institution is worth its financial value. You won’t have any regret becoming a student of the school as you will be exposed to many life-changing extra-curricular activities that will boost your academic career.
